Board Mill Relief Shift Supervisor

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide relief supervision for Board Mill operations in a manner which will ensure the production of high quality paperboard in the most efficient, economical, and safest manner.

ESSENTIAL
Responsibilities:

1. Provide shift supervision to stock preparation and board machine crews, including assign and direct work, provide training, check and sign timecards, etc.

2. Supervise production and certify that all quality specifications are being maintained throughout the stock and board machine processes so that a quality product is manufactured.

3. Check crew schedules; arrange for all-ins as required.

4. Make frequent checks of the condition of stock and machine operations evaluating such things as wet end tests, pulp quality, whitewater quality for reuse, wire drainage, formation, press operation, weight and moisture profiles, drying conditions, etc.

5. Make periodic checks of visual and physical characteristics of the paperboard produced to ensure that the highest quality standards are achieved at all times.

6. Administer contract provisions and company policies avoiding breach of contract, ensuring conformance to work rules and regulations, and administering appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.

7. Ensure that training for new employees is completed, including safety training and procedures, job duties, chemicals training and handling, and fire and emergency evacuation training. Complete employee progress reports.

8. Make decisions on the scope and necessity of premium-time maintenance and keep records documenting projected costs and nature of the project. Communicate ongoing projects to your shift successor to assure costs/projects are managed.

9. Effectively communicate day-to-day information on critical and routine issues affecting productivity, quality, safety, personnel, and maintenance to shift successor, along with superintended, as needed

10. Keep supervisor apprised of the condition of the board machine and related equipment and suggest repairs or improvements.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM
Qualifications:

Experience as a member of the board machine (or paper machine) crew

Demonstrated supervisory ability and experience as either a full time or relief supervisor

Ability to work various shifts/days or week in a 24/7 manufacturing operation


ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position will require an individual to:

Communicate well both in oral and written form.

Possess ambulatory capabilities to be able to walk extensively, climb, etc. in carrying out responsibilities.

Work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfil position responsibilities.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
